Today, May 25th, 2026, at Minister’s Village Hotel in Kampala, a critical conversation about youth leadership, civic engagement, and volunteerism came to life. Organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Association Uganda (UNAU), this Training of Trainers (ToT) event brought together passionate young leaders under a singular, powerful theme:

“Building Transformational Leaders for Civic Action and Sustainable Community Development.”

This wasn’t your typical event with passive participants seated in auditoriums. Instead, it was an active, participatory learning space where youth didn’t just receive information; they questioned it, debated it, and wrestled with what it means to be a leader in contemporary Uganda.

The event promised to unpack three interconnected pillars: leadership identity and civic engagementactive listening and participation, and the real mechanics of translating community problems into actionable solutions. What unfolded throughout the day was both humbling and inspiring, a reminder that transformation doesn’t require waiting for external permission or resources. It requires intention, clarity, and a willingness to think differently about our role in society.
