Monitoring tree-planting activites

As a follow up activity, UNA-UG sent a team to visit the schools that received trees, to monitor and evaluate if the trees were planted and if they were being taken well care of.

Trees were donated to schools that participated in the commemoration of the World Environment Day at Namave Tree Seed Center by the UNA-UG and National Forest Authority (NFA)

Kololo and Nakasero Senior Secondary Schools were visited.

At Kololo S.S, members led by their chapter leader Amumpire Sharon welcomed the UNA-UG team. The chapter had been given 9 trees, had planted 8 and offered the other to the school’s head teacher; she planted the tree at her home premises in Entebbe.

Kololo S.S students introduced the UNAU team to new ideas that the chapter established to conserve environment in there school. They included:

  • Sorting Waste and Recycling (SOWARE): An initiative by UNA-UG youth to collect all plastic bottles from the school’s compound and store them waiting recycling.

  • Kololo Young Entrepreneur “Bank” (KOYEBA): A money keeping account where members keep money for their teachers, students and non-teaching staff. The profits made are used to by trees and improve on the environment in their school.

The chapter also plants trees and trains sister-schools about environment conservation. The schools are Divine-Child Primary school and Wisdom Primary school of Entebbe and Kawempe respectively.

In the same vein, Nakasero S.S had received 11 trees and had so far planted 6. Baguma Knock the acting-patron explained that they are faced with a challenge to locate where to plant the trees because the school has a small compound but, promised to ensure that the trees are planted.

UNA-UG with more support from NFA has embarked on intensive tree planting and urges the youth to embrace the idea and help conserve the environment.
