Uganda Model - UN (UMUN) 2016

 

The Uganda Model United Nations (UMUN) is a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly where young people between the ages of 18 -35 from different backgrounds in Uganda get an opportunity to practice diplomacy, leadership and ways that the United Nations (UN) operates.

UMUN focuses mostly on national, regional and global issues that rise concern to the youth.

Historically, UMUN has been organized and held since its launch in 2009 at Makerere University. Consecutively, every after a year the conference progressed on to Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in 2010, Nkumba University in 2011, Mbarara University of Science and Technology in 2013, Makerere University in 2014 and and recently in Cavendish University.

UNAU is already in preparations organising Uganda Model UN 2016,

The 6th Uganda Model Youth simulation converged over 55 students from over 12 universities in Uganda.

Assuming UN members states as delegates, the UN General Assembly simulation had over 30 delegations including, USA, China, Nigeria South Sudan and Uganda among others.

Themed: “Beyond 2015 — Youths engagement in setting goals for post 2015 development agenda” youth got to liberate on current important issue affecting the world.

The Uganda Model UN (UMUN) 2013 attracted over 50 University students under the theme: “Global partnership for enhanced health services — Youths involvement to improve health.” It was hosted by UNAU - MUST Chapter at Mbarara University Inn.

Through simulating the UN General Assembly, the conference aimed at instilling diplomatic skills among participants.

The office of UN Resident Coordinator was represented at the kick-off   of the event by Mr. Nuwamanya Abel.

UMUN 2012 Opinons

The situation in keyo former Internally Displace Person’s (IDP)camp rearally tourched me, it dried out my jokes at the moment in time.

The There is absolute pverty  in this camp. People do not even live on half a dollar a day as per to what I saw there.

People (old women) nealt down in thanx for a packet of salt that we were giving, and for the children you would not belive the  wide smile on there faces for the sweets.
